HSITAG’s Charitable Giving Campaign returned on June 14th at the American Public Human Services Association’s National Health and Human Services Summit in Washington D.C. Each year, HSITAG conducts giving campaigns to raise awareness on various social causes that impact health and human services programs. During this year’s most recent campaign, members joined forces to help fight food injustice as part of #HSITAGGivesBack.

HSITAG partnered with Martha’s Table, an organization that is committed to achieving a more equitable Washington D.C. through fighting food insecurity and promoting family success. This community-led organization relies on the support of volunteers to advance their educational, family engagement and physical and emotional wellness initiatives for thousands of D.C. families each week.

Their efforts include:

  • Expanding educational programs for local children
  • Supporting family leaders on their path to economic security
  • Providing access to healthy food and mental wellness programming
  • Supporting local neighborhood leadership to advance community driven initiatives

“Our members unite towards a common goal, especially one as fundamental as access to healthy food,” said Karen Rewalt, Chair of HSITAG’s Charitable Giving Committee, “This opportunity to partner with Martha’s Table allowed our members to get hands-on and help fight food insecurity in the DC area and give back virtually to local communities.”

HSITAG members Mixed and Matched preparing trail mix bags as food donations for those in need delivered nightly to the DC area. Members worked together to build over 350 bags, which were donated and distributed to individuals and families who are struggling with food insecurity.

Alongside these efforts, HSITAG collected online monetary donations for Martha’s Table with the goal of raising $2,500. This two-pronged approach of both hands-on efforts and monetary donations worked to ensure Martha Table’s goal of supporting strong families and building resilient communities in our nation’s capital was not only met, but surpassed. Member contributions exceeded the $2,500 goal, and HSITAG collected an astounding $5,025 in donations. A special thank you to HSITAG members Diona and Change & Innovation Agency, who each made an incredible $1,000 donation. Thank you to everyone who participated!
